Low maintenance, drought tolerant, and resilient, this plant adds a striking splash of color to meadows, gardens, and cut or dried flower arrangements. Stiff, lance shaped leaves provide a base for the small, star-shaped, bright orange flowers that cluster from stems peeking out of the bushy foliage. Its deep taproot means that it will come back year after year, and ensures its ability to thrive in dry soils with poor fertility. Alongside its other variants, this variant of Asclepias provides critical habitat for Monarch Butterfly larvae. Flowers should be cut back either following self-seeding, or before the seed pods open, to promote growth and keep your garden maintained to your preference. This plant makes a wonderful addition to any North American Garden.
