This variety of Hollyhock is known for its standout red flowers that almost appear like pom-poms and rise high above most other flowers amidst the garden throughout the hotter months of the year. Though it is a rather short-lived perennial, usually lasting two to four years, this plant is hardy and incredibly attractive to pollinators. When allowed to fruit, it will self-seed, or the fruits can be harvested for manual planting of the seeds. Outside of flowering season, it continues to boast large, lobed foliage with deep green hues. It works best as a backdrop for the garden, providing a stunning frame for other perennials and growing well against fences or back walls. These flowers look beautifully in a bouquet, but if left to fully fruit should be cut back to encourage a second bloom. Stalks should be removed at the end of the season.
