  • Blooming biennial or short lived perennial; wide, striking purple flowers that reach a more modest height compared to other Hollyhocks

  • Grow to be 2 to 3 feet high and 10 inches to 1 foot wide

  • Prefers full sun and medium moisture; water consistently in well drained soils until established and then during especially dry and hot periods

  • Attractive to butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees

This variety of Hollyhock is known for its shorter stature and frilly purple flowers that bloom throughout the hotter months of the year. Though it is a rather short-lived perennial, usually lasting two to four years, this plant is hardy and incredibly attractive to pollinators. When allowed to fruit, it will self-seed, or the fruits can be harvested for manual planting of the seeds. Outside of flowering season, it continues to boast large, lobed foliage with deep green hues. It works best as a backdrop for the garden, providing a stunning frame for other perennials and growing well against fences or back walls. These flowers look beautifully in a bouquet, but if left to fully fruit should be cut back to encourage a second bloom. Stalks should be removed at the end of the season.
